Kisha King was born in Brooklyn, New York to Panamanian parents. She lived in the mid-Atlantic area before moving to Florida. Kisha earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Master of Arts in American History from Florida International University. Her graduate research focused on the civil rights struggle in Miami. Kisha continued her doctoral studies at FIU’s History Department, focusing on white massive resistance to civil rights in Florida. She took her passion for history to the academy and the community, participating on panel discussions and presenting papers on a variety of historical topics involving the African Diaspora.

Kisha King is the Associate Dean for the Social and Behavioral Sciences and Human Services Department at Broward College Central Campus. She serves Broward College students in a variety of ways. She is an Associate Professor of History, developing and teaching African American History, American History, and Latin American History courses in both online and face to face modalities. She was the Central Campus Honors Coordinator for the Robert “Bob” Elmore Honors College. She was the Professor of Record for Broward College’s Summer Study Abroad program to Africa (2001-2008). Professor King accompanied students to Senegal, the Gambia, Ghana, and Kemet (Egypt). Her travels include the Spring Break Service-Learning Study Abroad courses to Bolivia, SA (2017) and Belize, CA (2020).
