Finally, winter is over and it’s time to think about getting in shape in preparation for your spring and summer sporting activities. If you’re a sports fan, the temptation to sit down in front of a TV screen may be too strong to resist.

But with all the sports magnificence taking place, there could be no better time to get the inspiration you need to leap into action yourself.

Kathleen Trotter is a personal trainer, pilates equipment expert, Globe and Mail fitness columnist and blogger. She says, "Don't use running to get in shape, get in shape to run!" Beginners or sedentary individuals need to start off slowly to gradually build up their stamina.

Trotter says that the key is consistency with your training.Try to get yourself into the habit of exercising daily. It’s better to have shorter-duration sessions on a regular basis, instead of a stop-start routine.
