Dick B.'s son Ken discusses the 135 occurrences of the word "God" in pages 1-164 of the fourth edition of Alcoholics Anonymous ("the Big Book"), along with the 81 occurrences of capitalized pronouns referring to the Creator of the heavens and the earth in those pages and the 16 occurrences of biblical descriptions of the Creator in those same 164 pages. He also discusses the myths that: (1) "the Big Book has never changed"; and (2) the "basic text" of A.A. is the (four) Foreword(s), "The Doctor's Opinion," pages 1-164 (in the second, third, and fourth editions of the Big Book), and "Appendix II: Spiritual Experience" in the Big Book. In addition, he discusses key lessons those who ignore the "Personal Stories" section of the Big Book--and particularly the 26 of the original 29 personal testimonies in the back of the first edition (1939) of the Big Book--are missing about why early A.A. succeeded.
