Oncologists are unique in that no one wants to ever go to the Oncologist. This is an understandable reluctance to face what is far too often a death sentence. From the doctors’ point of view, he is a reluctant bearer of at best hard tidings, and must often look into eyes that are staring at death.

Death has fostered myth, faith, fear and folklore throughout history. But facing death, addressing the issues of God, the soul, the afterlife has typically been the talk of clerics.

When this man of medicine and heart runs out of science, he steps firmly onto the thin ice of faith and belief. This grey area of comfort is certainly off the medical and scientific charts.

Modern medicine is great at modern medical answers. But most practitioners avoid the intangible questions that arise along side serious and terminal illness.

Steve Iacoboni does not pretend to have the answers, he steadfastly stands by the questions … providing a spiritual component to the scientific unknown. Some call this unethical or at least inappropriate for a man seeped in scientific medicine. His patients call it helpful and comforting … that there is a bridge between science and spirituality.
