Closet Talk: Dr. Michael Schmitt - Civil Unions or Marriage and the Heterosexual Identity Problem

Dr. Michael Schmitt is an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University. His research interests are "based on psychological perspectives that focus on self-definition at the group level, particularly social identity theory and self-categorization theory." He has studied how people respond to discrimination and group-based inequality from the perspective of both privileged and disadvantaged social groups. We will be discussing the role of heterosexual identity threats in differential support for same-sex "civil unions" v. "marriages"
