Racist vs. being Racist. Is there a difference?

Many throw the word "racist" around at the drop of a hat. While extreme racist, will embody it and the Al Sharpton's of the world will call them out, there is a class of people who get confused. Can you make an "off-color" joke and not be called out for it based on ignorance? Some may think its funny. Many others will hit the roof because of the offense. What if you don't understand? Should people just "lighten up?" 

Is this racist? The Life Full Circle Radio staff heard this questions a lot this week. So much so that we decided to make it a part of the Life Full Circle Radio conversation this week. What makes something racist? What is the difference between racist and not knowing? Where is the line between racist and stereotypes?
