On March 30, 1863 Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of fasting Lincoln wrote:We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

If that was true in 1863 it is even more true today. So one man has decided to follow Lincoln's footsteps and call for a nationwide day of fasting and prayer in order to secure the blessings of our Heavenly Father once more. His name is Jay McCaney and we will talk to Jay not just about fasting for our nation but how it can help in our own lives. We will compare fasting of biblical times to fasting of today. We will also look at why people are so "furious" and how fasting can help funnel that ire into something more useful and constructive. We will also take your calls. So if you are "furious" maybe it is time you start to "fast"
