Tonight's special guest is Scott Allen from Weston, Connecticut. Scott, 72, is retired, and works as a volunteer at his local homeless shelter. His previous careers were spent as a keyboard musician and a carpenter. Scott explains that his 12-year-old niece was raped and murdered in 1994 by two men who offered her a ride home. The ongoing history of the crime itself was explained in an article from January, 2023. "The police screwed up her case from the beginning of her disappearance," he says. "I think that many mothers fail to instruct their daughters as to the dangers of puberty and the aggressive nature of men in general." NAASCA points out that teaching children about the dangers of ALL child abuse is best taught in age appropriate stages starting when a son or daughter is a toddler, and growing more specifically as the child grows older. So, too the responsibility of mothers and fathers word-wide ought not just about sexual assault but should include violent abuse of all kinds. We know that the child is completely at the mercy of a perpetrator, not just because of their understandably naive susceptibility to adults, but also because of their general physical strength. "Often forgotten is the 'golden hour', the first hour o fa child's disappearance," Scott says, pointing out this must be explained to the siblings so that they all understand it, and know what to do if this happens.
