Gregory Townes was born and raised in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. Similar to the esteemed authors of the Harlem Renaissance, his writing attempts to redefine the boundaries of African American literature expression.
His interdisciplinary approach to writing brings together several genres into one, as well as several historical ears.
His blend of history and fantasy can be traced to his early childhood years.
His first book, “The Tribe” is a powerful example of his symbolic and collaborative style. He draws upon the richness of both modern urban life and ancient culture within the context of an African centered perspective.
