David William Peace

Author and Licensed Professional Counselor

Vinita, OK

For David, the writing has always been a lifeline. He figured out how to change a hostile work environment by creating and distributing a weekly newsletter. It consisted of tips and solutions to the challenges of working with resistant mental health clients. Fellow clinicians started to ask more questions and argue less.

While attending Northeastern Oklahoma University from 2006 to 2009 for a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, he embraced the writing assignments and navigated some grueling questions for an advancing career. While other students moaned about the papers, David wished for more. The hours of writing meant hours of play.

Further back in his life, while at Pittsburg State University, he struggled with the rules of structured college essay writing. Until the spring of 1996, he had always come up with stories and entries in his notebooks. There was never any challenge in summing up experiences and research that would please a seasoned English Composition instructor. Her manner of confronting him on the lack of effort was a game-changer.

David became addicted to writing essays and seeing how far he could go into a story. Many more notebooks were filled. Just about every park bench and table at the coffee houses in Pittbsurg, Kansas were spot for him to sit and compose fiction. While his son, Zachary was running around the house, David would experiment with rhymes and draw up matching images. Gross Troy and The Beast; which has yet to be published, is a result of the work.
