Eventually, when my life stabilized somewhat, I then felt a need to spend time in reflection and reconciliation, to remember and even document how I had coped and what I had learned about myself and the Human condition in the process. I emerged a more self aware, confident, healthy, happy person. And my evolution eventually led me to the revelation one morning, in a twilight sleep, that “My Purpose is to share these insights with others”. That is when my new passion for writing began in earnest. Through the contemplative art of writing, what has become clear to me is that we are all an amalgam of our own personal challenges and successes, superimposed against the social environs we inhabited during our adolescence. For me, growing up in the sixties and seventies left me with an introspective streak. Books, poems, music and prevailing trends of that time compelled us to look inward to find the truth when our outer world was giving us mixed signals. Now-a-days, though many things have changed in our society, in the areas of technology, medicine, economics and more, one constant remains: Uncertainty. And it’s that uncertainty makes it difficult for us to find lasting peace of mind and happiness. And yet, I now know that, in spite of our circumstances, it is not only possible to find lasting happiness, but may indeed be the most important work of our lives. As a seasoned writer, now having achieved the mixed blessing of "maturity" I can finally view my life more clearly in the rear view mirror. And my rather neurotic need to make sense of it all, creates a driving obsession to distill events, emotions, behaviors, fears, passions and social phenomena down to their elemental structure. I will sit and study, or ruminate, for hours, if need be, to arrive at a way to comprehend and describe my subjects in crystal clarity.  -Shane Eric Mathias
