Autism/Aspbergers: On The Inside Looking Out

Autism and Aspbergers have made the headlines recently with the disappearance of 14 year old Avonte Oquendo, who left school under the noses of teachers and security over 2 months ago and hasn't been seen since. Since that time an adult with autism had gone missing and was found, and singer Susan Boyle was recently diagnosed as having autism. 

My recent acquaintance with a gentleman in my personal life, who appears to fall within the Autism/Aspbergers spectrum is what originally made me want to cover this baffling, yet fascinating condition.  I have also worked with this population in a residential environment.

So many parents are struggling to understand their children and are trying to make sure that they get the services they need.  I am looking forward to learning more as Denise Goodard guests as a parent of a child with autism.  In the meantime, let's hope that Avonte Oquendo is found safe.
