On this episode of Role Call with Chief Brian Dugan, we get behind the handle bars with Onbikes co-founder Julius Tobin to hear how the local nonprofit uses two-wheels to power positive change. Tobin shares some secrets behind the wildly popular nonprofit's ability to provide free bikes to at-risk kids.
Tobin and a group of friends founded Onbikes in 2011 after hosting a successful community bike ride that raised money to purchase bikes for disadvantaged children. Since then, the nonprofit has teamed up with numerous organizations, including the Tampa Police Department, to provide thousands of kids with their first set of wheels.
Tobin and his colleagues view Onbikes as not just an organization, but a lifestyle. Their hope is that each person who experiences Onbikes picks up their “giving is better than receiving” philosophy that promotes the organization's committment to serving the community around them.
