The movie was based on the New York Best Seller, The Freedom Writers Diary that was written by our Founder, Erin Gruwell and the original Freedom Writers. Since the 2007 release, the film has been featured on networks including VH1 and MTV. Our story has received recognition from Oprah, CNN, The View, Good Morning America and Prime Time Live to name a few. Since 2007, we have expanded our capacity and outreach by bringing empowering curriculum tools into the communities of over 550 educators to date, representing all 50 states in the United States and over a dozen countries around the world. These trained educators, the Freedom Writer Teachers, have changed the lives of over 450,000 students.
