The Young Media Critics ... voices of the future will talk about the history of the holiday "Mother's Day which is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of the May.  Mother's Day is one of the most celebrated holidays creating over 16 billion dollars in sales.  The founder of Mother's Day, Anna Jarvis lobbied for the creation of the holiday as a tribute to her mother and mothers everywhere. Her efforts paid off in 1914 when President Wilson officially designated the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

Later on, after seeing her holiday cheapened by rampant commercialism, Anna denounced her own holiday. She wrote:"I wanted [Mother's Day] to be a day of sentiment, not profit."

The Young Media Critics are going to talk about how Anna Jarvis really wanted the holiday to be celebrated.

Join us Tuesday, May 13, 2014, 5 p.m.  and hear what the Young Media Critics..voices of the future have to say!
