"We had a spirit to build and structure the African-American or the Black person.  We had the spirit to do that.  Our great educators, Frederick Douglass, the great orator and statesman.  Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, W. E. B. DuBois.  The recent educator Benjamin Mays, and many, many others.  Men and women who saw the need to build and structure the life and identity of their people.  And they made their contribution, but their contribution has been incomplete.”
