David P. Stevens and yours truly have known each other for a while. And it's significant to see the changes that are happening with him. He never felt comfortable being placed in a box - or labeled as ONE kind of artist. Because this is a post George Floyd world, he now sees himself as he was always intended to be: a Messenger.
Our Philly Hometown Hero gravitated to the guitar before he was a teenager. The story goes that he saw and heard Norman Brown one day. And his life changed. Norman on that axe and that charisma? DPS was SOLD! He knew that this was what he wanted to do and be in his life.
Consider this. So on fire was he to play guitar and emulate what NB was that he played his heart out at Church. Other instruments were involved, so you know: Bass/drums/keys. This young one was determined. So the playing started at 12 - by 14, he was playing professionally!
In time, David had his own studio (Fresh Tracks in Philly) and he spent every dime he had to get artists involved in what he envisioned. He was writing, producing, playing and becoming an ON FIRE performer.
Fast forward to this amazing talent's evolution: he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee. With a Master's degree in Business. Music focus. Whew! Some of you know that before and after this degree, our friend was playing with THE movers and shakers in Contemporary Jazz. And he had the resolve to concentrate on SIX albums. He was a guest on "Hybrid Jazz" to promote two of them: "The Shedd" and "Epiphany." One before "The Shedd" and three following "Epiphany."
His new single will make you appreciate David in a whole new way. "I Am a Man." is what you need to know NOW. Our guest will tell you the rest on 7/2/20. ONE p.m. Eastern. Our music mix - ALL Philadelphia oriented - will start at NOON.
See you in The Chat Room. Let's heal the world.
