Ryan Howard, founder and CEO of Practice Fusion the San Francisco-based provider of free web-based electronic health records (EHRs) raised $23 million recently. Just two years ago, Practice Fusion was on the verge of extinction. His situation was so desperate that he had to use the insurance he got for a bad motorcycle accident, to pay the salary of three employees. He has 90,000 users and a database of 12 million patients, which he claims is bigger than the VA’s and Kaiser Permanente’s. Their innovative free, web-based EMR was quickly recognized as a disruptive industry force. By removing the cost and technology barriers to EMR adoption, society bnefits greatly! We will also discuss how Innovators Academy attendees might be able to help their rapid growth as interns.
