Are Black People Still Embracing "Knowledge of Self?"

There are many who believe their is an attack on black consciousness and solidarity. It is becoming much more about becoming less visible than more.

If you look at the success of our best and brightest in the arts, fashion, entertainment, poitics, business and education, many have reached those statuses by becoming much less "conscious" of the environment that many African American has come from. 

Are they not "keeping it real" or has that concept just simply evolved into something many of us need to catch up to.
