We have all heard the expression that God hates sin but loves the sinner, and even though that phrase is not an actual verse, you can certainly make a strong biblical case for that. But lately I have been seeing posts online that assert that God hates both the sin and the sinner with equal fervor. What scriptual evidence could there be to prove that God hates sinners? Can you make a case for God hating sinners in any dispensation?

On this episode of Rightly Dividing, we will be looking in what the love of God is, what it is not, and how God has demostrated that love for people in different dispensations. God has not changed, and indeed, cannot change. He is is the same as He always was and will always be. But the Bible shows us that He choses to manifest Himself in different ways at different times. Did God hate sinners in the Old Testament but then showed them grace in the New Testament? Many people are confused when they see the Bible presenting seeming contradictions about the nature of God, which is one reason why our apostile Paul commands us to rightly divide. When we do that, everything begins to line itself up and make sense. The Bible is quite clear about how God feels about sin, and how He feels about the sinner, saved or lost.

"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Romans 5:6-9 (KJV)
