Illegal: How the US immigration tyranny threatens LGBT immigrants and us all

Today we talk to author Elizabeth F. Cohen about her new book Illegal: How America's Lawless Immigration Regime Threatens Us All.  Many transgender and other LGBT individuals have been trapped in the horrors of America's immigration tyranny.

ILLEGAL gives us the full scope of the issue starting in the days just after 9/11. We will find out how the panic of the time gave way to the creation of a complex and unmonitored infratructure that the Trump administration has unleashed without recourse.  We will find out the ramifications of that, not only to LGBTQ people fleeing persecution in their own lands, but to us all.

Elizabeth  is Associate Professor of Political Science at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, New York. She is the author of The Political Value of Time(2018) as well as the book Semi-Citizenship in Democratic Politics (Cambridge, 2009),   She has also published op-eds in newspapers including the Washington Post and Politico.
