From the moment a mom's feet hit the floor, the work for the day begins and often doesn't end until bed time. Today's families are busy going from home to school to work to after school and back home with a full to-do list.  Dr. Daemon Jones, a naturopathic physician, joins us to share tips and remedies for combatting daily stress. A respected physician, Dr. Dae as patients call her, has been in practice over ten years. She is based in Washington, DC but sees patients all over the country.  Dr. Dae devotes significant time in her practice to alleviating stress-related illnesses which impact the quality of life including diabetes, heart disease and migraines. Dr. Dae will tell Game Ready Moms which foods, habits, and daily practices help families become calmer and healthier.  Dr. Dae will also discuss how your child may experience stress. The signs and symptoms exhibit differently than they do in adults. If your young athlete competes, he/she may definitely be under stress.  And don't forget the diet! Dr. Dae will also share tips for healthy eating. Co-host Deborah Johnson was encouraged to particpate in sports from an early age. Others, like co-host Mia Jackson, were steered away from sweat, being told that balls were for boys. Now we know better! The guest on today's show is an accomplished and respected sports professional. Angela Taylor of NetWorks Sports Consulting shares her 17 years of experience. On all levels, Angela's a winner. She's participated and excelled in basketball and business. From on-the-court National Championship Winner with the Stanford Cardinal basketball team to her role as a leader as GM of the Washington Mystics, Angela honed her handling skills. As a visionary, Angela is poised to lead her firm to the top of the sports marketing world. The ascent is something we are excited to watch! Tonight, she'll join us in a discussion on the impact of sports for girls. Here are some facts collected by the Girls Scouts: The Girl Scout Research Institute, The New Normal? What Girls Say About Healthy Living (2006) • The more physically active girls are, the greater their self-esteem and the more satisfied they are with their weight, regardless of how much they weigh. Eighty-three percent of very active girls say that physical activity makes them feel good about themselves. • For girls ages 11-17 it is the perception of being overweight, not just weight alone, that inhibits participation in sports and physical activities. • Many girls ages 11–17 say they do not play sports because they do not feel skilled or competent (40%) or because they do not think their bodies look good (23%).  01:04:00Game Ready MomnoGirls,Athletes,Basketball,Sports,MothersDid you play sports as a young girl or woman? Dr. Daemon Jones, a MD-based naturopathic physican is a featured instructor and author. To encourage her patients to rediscover healthy eating, Dr. Dae performed cooking demonstrations. She also held demos with cancer and chronic disease organizations to support their goal to improve health through nutrition. In 2007, Dr. Dae self-published her first book, Daelicious! Recipes for Vibrant Living. She incorporates nutrition, cooking and mind-body skills training as part of her treatment plans.  In 2011, Dr. Dae joined Howard University Researchers as a consultan for a pilot study for the effect of yoga and nutrition on HIV positive women. “Deanna, you’re special.  We chose you.” Those were the words that William and Fannie Jones, Ms. Deanna Moore's adoptive parents used to encourage and assure her. Her path to success has been atypical, including years in foster care, completing college while raising her children, caring for her adoptive mother after a debilitating stroke and starting the I Think I Am Foundation to provide programs for families connected by foster care. The motivational speaker inspires families around the country. A graduate of the University of Texas-El Paso, Deanna Moore founded Tender Love Nursing and Rehab Care which primarily provides physical therapy services in hospitals and skilled nursing settings. A native of Lagos, Nigeria, Mrs. Orakpo migrated to the U.S. after studying at a university in London, England for two years. She landed in Texas, received her degree from Texas Southern and, along with her husband, raised a wonderful family in the Lone Star State. Her son Brian now plays for the Washington Redskins and is one of the best linebackes in the NFL. "It was very challenging because Nigeria is a highly populated country and the schools always filled up, so for some of us who couldn't get into school, we had to find alternatives to get education," she said. "I was very determined to get an education, so I decided to leave the country." Now, Mrs. Orakpo is a business woman who owns a store in the Houston area. She believes in looking, feeling and living fabuolously. Her laughter is infectious. According to Brian, Gloria is his role model. "My [role model is] mother, Gloria Orakpo, for the hard work she put in her whole life. She came from Nigeria and started life all over again. She's been a strong point in our family."
