Please join host Frankie PIcasso on August 6th at 1:00 pm EDT when her guest is Ian Northcott, an ex armed servicemen and policeman from Birmingham, England aka The Busking Bobby!
in 2010, Ian founded the charity Sock n Chocs, an initiative meant to provide some comforts to the Homeless in Birmingham.
In order to keep his charity managable for all involved, Ian's plan was to have " a lot of people doing a little bit"!
Together, they collect sleeping bags, underwear, socks and chocolates of course as well as some other items that go directly to homeless shelters and/or other agencies.
One day while Ian was on the beat , he came across a couple of buskers he knew performing downtown. In an impromtu decision, Ian grabbed a guitar and started performing the song Wonderwall by Oasis. One of the onlookers too a video of the event and it went viral. To date, there have been over one million views.
Never did Ian contemplate that as a result of his 'act' Sock n Chocs would be so favourably impacted. Says Ian, "Following the video we got donations from as far away as Japan and Turkey, so it was worth enduring some of the banter as if nothing else it really raised the profile for the charitable work I’m devoted to.”
Also as a result of this surge in his charity work, Ian was awarded a Point of Light community award by the Prime Minister of England.
To Date: Socks N Chocs has distributed 3814 pairs of socks and 1933 bars of chocs! 233 Sleeping bags and 1233 miscellaneous items. GO Socks n Chocs
