The COVID-19 pandemic has become an economic crisis as well as a public health crisis. There are trying times ahead for many Americans, but businesses and government at all levels are taking steps to ease the burden on the thousands of Americans losing work to help slow the spread of the pandemic.
The federal government is still working on a plan that could deliver checks directly to millions of Americans, though it hasn't decided on anything yet. In the meantime, here are seven other resources you can check to get financial assistance over the next few months. The president signed an economic relief bill on March 18 promising paid sick leave to employees of small- and mid-sized businesses (with fewer than 500 employees) affected by COVID-19. Many companies have also voluntarily changed their sick-leave policies in light of the pandemic. This will only assist those who still have jobs, but it's a good place to get support if you're eligible. Talk with your employer about your company's sick leave policies during the pandemic so you understand what to expect.
