BEFORE You Vote, Show Me Your I.D., Buddy! - II

On Critical Discourse last week, we reviewed the potential impact on the voters, of the push by governors of a number of states, to require I.D.s in order to register to vote. Obviously, the controversy hasn't gone away, with charges still being lobbed by Democrats, that the measures are a way to suppress the votes of black people and the elderly, to name two.

In fact, the NAACP is sponsoring a rally in NYC, to decry what they see as a long-term attempt by the right-wing, to disenfranchise black people, youth, Native Americans, working women and immigrants. In fact, here's an excerpt from the promotional e-mail:

What we're facing is the most aggressive attempt to roll back voting rights in over a century.

A century ago, the tactics were varied: grandfather clauses, poll tests, poll taxes, and racially motivated ex-felon voting bans.
