Guest: Sandy Hartman

Angelica and Siggy are excited to welcome Sandy Hartman to the show today. Sandy Hartman was born the only child of a loving father and a deeply troubled mother who must have wished dearly to love but could not in a way that a growing child desperately needed to become whole. Most likely she lived within the remorseless grip of high functioning autism, a thing unknown or little understood in her time. It was a lifetime later during extensive workshops dedicated to training teachers to deal with newly mainstreamed at risk children into traditional classrooms that Sandy realized that the profiles provided for the study of high functioning autism matched her own mother’s behavioral difficulties. This was in a time before there existed any of the modern psychotropic medicines or the veritable glut of excellent coaching and self help programs that are available today. And so the journey for Sandy Hartman became a tight and relentless weave of inner and outer stress and challenges often accompanied by fragile health, the upshot being the single word, survive, survive, survive. Find a way to stabilize, heal, and build some sanctuary of peace within. The same age old struggle that has dogged so many throughout the ages. Sandy Hartman graduated from the University of Denver and obtained a Master’s Degree from Nova Southeastern University. She traveled extensively during the Viet Nam war years and also spent nearly four years living and teaching in Saigon, Viet Nam and Vientiane, Laos during those years.
