Is Knowledge Management Still Relevant?

The purpose of this program is to explore the current state of knowledge management (KM) practice, its evolution in recent years, and its continuing relevance (or no?) to modern organizations.  We will discuss such questions as:  To what extent has the explosion of data and social media tools on the Web made a KM perspective more or less pertinent?   Is the current perception of KM more IT toolset than business process methodology?  How easy or difficult is it to measure organizational results from successful KM programs?

Mark Addleson, Associate Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University, with a PhD from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.  He is also the author of a book entitled, 'Beyond Management: Taking Charge at Work'.   A guide to organizing knowledge-work, this book highlights the differences between factory-work and knowledge-work to reveal why conventional management practices are outdated/obsolete.

Madelyn Blair  is a Taos Institute Associate, a member of the Associates Council, and received her PhD from Tilburg University in The  Netherlands. An author, speaker and consultant, she was an executive at the World Bank before forming her company, Pelerei, 25 years ago and locating in the DC area.  Most recently, she is a contributing author of 'Making it Real: Sustaining Knowledge Management'. 

Gary Vaughan will be hosting the program. Gary is a Senior IT and Knowledge Management Advisor at the State Department's Office of eDiplomacy through Glotech, Inc.
