Dr. James Fett graduated from the University of Minnesota medical school in 1960. He is uniquely involved in working with peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) patients since his retirement from United States Public Health Service in 1997. He is currently working in Haiti on several peripartum cardiomyopathy research projects. He is a consultant for the Peripartum Cardiomyopathy Network/ Investigation Pregnancy Associated Cardiomyopathy (PCN/IPAC) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. James Fett will discuss critical points on the effects of peripartum and postpartum cardiomyopathy. He will explain in lay terms the symptoms, treatment, risk levels and warning signs of this illness as well as the different types of medical tests that can provide critical information on this rare, life-threatening disease of unknown causes that affects healthy women of any racial background and any age during the last month of pregnancy (peripartum) or within 5 months after delivery (postpartum).
