The Ides of March saw Barack Obama nominate D.C. Circuit Court Judge Merrick Garland as his judicial supremacist trojan horse replacement for the late Justice Antonin Scalia, but that didn't obligate the Senate Republican majority to give him confirmation hearings; and the Constitution was designed to protect us from the Trumps of the world, and back then everybody - EVERYBODY - believed it would.
Following a mere 671 hour intermission this time, a sneak preview of Trumplican incompetence and dysfunction on Capitol Hill; Trump winning the GOP nomination was disastrous, but NeverTrumpers still could not change the rules after the fact to try and block him; and Ted Cruz's recruitment of uncommitted GOP delegates provided hope that such impermissible actions would prove unnecessary.
