The Ghosts of Resolutions Past

If you are honest, your resolutions for 2011 are a mirror image of your resolutions from last year and the year before,so something's got to give. It seems the more we resolve the less we actually accomplish. This year I short-circuited my wish list of unwanted pounds, unfinished projects, and pie in the sky considerations for more "reasonable requests" of myself - I resolved to obey God. That takes care of eating just to eat, talking just to talk, and the other acts which reflect a lack of discipline. Don't take it lightly, disobedience is the bedrock of all our dysfunctional behaviors and ill idiosyncrasies that keep us in a place of disappointment when diets fail and pet projects turn into December didn't happens. You see, obedience to God requires submission, and submitting means relinquishing control to someone we cannot see and cannot literally touch, therefore someone we cannot control. The control freak in us facilitates the tailspin of our unresolved resolutions. Instead of progress we find ourselves in the same place year after year, feeling defeated. This year, obedience is my Taskmaster. I am no longer under the law, and I have freedom in Jesus because the son sets us free, to do, to eat, and to go wherever I please under his authority. This is going to be a year of resolution for resolutions. If I obey.
