The Founding Fathers and Private Militias

     The American democracy was designed to give the American citizens the power to choose their representatives by using their right to Vote. At the time women and people of African descent were not included so the meaning of ‘democracy was truncated but by amending the Bill of Rights to the Constitution voting became universal. The freedom to carry weapons around and murder innocent people is not in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights or in the Second Amendment. The founders thought that justice would be better served through the use of the Judicial System.
      Probably the most articulate explanation of the Second Amendment and its intent was published on May 6, 1995 in the New York Times.  It is an Opinion piece by Herbert Mitgang. Mr. Mitgang is a historian, author and former member of the editorial board of The New York Times and he was a WWII Soldier Correspondent.
